The leadership of Aim High is visionary, collaborative and deeply committed to the mission of the organization. The guiding principle of the organization is to, “provide a high-quality summer school experience to Bay Area youth who need us most.” The Board of Trustees and leadership team work collaboratively to sustain and extend the Aim High program in underserved neighborhoods and communities. The major roles and responsibilities of the Aim High Board of Trustees include: upholding the program’s mission, establishing and approving all major educational and operational policies, approving the program’s annual budget and overseeing the fiscal affairs, monitoring the program’s educational and operational performance, and hiring/evaluating and the Executive Director. The Founder and Executive Director, Alec Lee, has been with the program since its inception in 1986, and has provided consistency in leadership, attracting and retaining talented and loyal staff throughout the organization’s history. Learn more about the staff here.
Site Directors (for the eleven summer school campuses and the Headlands Environmental Studies component) are employed full-time in the summer, as well as part-time during the academic year to coordinate and plan for the summer; Site Directors commit to the program for three summers, but many remain for over five years. Site Directors and faculty represent the fabric of the organization and spend the bulk of the academic year planning to ensure a successful, high-quality summer and a positive, engaging learning experience for our Aim High students. While the average tenure for all Aim High teachers is 2.4 years, Aim High has many teachers that have been with the program for five or more years, and also hires many new teachers each summer. In 2007, approximately 31% of all Aim High faculty members were graduates of the program who have returned to “give back” and serve as exemplary role models for current students. This is a tribute to the community that Aim High has built over the years.
