Oakland native Jen Beitzell joins us for her fifth summer with Aim High and second as a Site Director. She holds an M.A. and Multiple Subject Teaching Credential from Mills College. During the school year, you can find Jen teaching fourth and fifth grade at Henry Haight Elementary School in Alameda and cooking delicious meals for her family to enjoy.
In middle school, I was very social. I enjoyed spending time with my friends, swimming, and reading.
Arianna Brown is returning for her 10th summer with Aim High, and her second as a Site Director. Arianna grew up in Hercules and received a degree in mathematics from California State University East Bay. During the school year, you can find Arianna teaching math at El Cerrito High School, writing poetry, and eating large quantities of sweets.
In middle school, I loved singing in talent shows and doing well in school.
Kamia Cuevas is returning for her fourth summer at Aim High, and her second as Site Director. A Bay Area native, Kamia grew up in East Oakland and received an M.A. in Education Administration from San Francisco State University. During the school year, you can find Kamia teaching 7th and 8th grade history, dancing and practicing martial arts.
In middle school, I spent time learning how to learn, learning how I learned best and how I could overcome my learning disabilities. I played sports, competed in martial arts tournaments and had fun with my friends and family!
David Ramirez is returning for his third summer as Site Director in his hometown of Oakland. He has multiple master’s degrees in education and is a Ph.D. candidate in Educational Leadership Policy and Change at Walden University. During the school year, you can find David working as the 8th grade math / algebra teacher at Urban Promise Academy and as a beginning teacher support coach for Oakland Unified School District.
In middle school, I was able to run a mile in 6 minutes and 15 seconds and I used to play football and baseball.
An Aim High veteran, Benjie Achtenberg is returning for his 11th summer at Aim High, and fourth as a Site Director in his hometown of Oakland. Benjie received an M.A. in Education from Mills College. During the school year, you can find Benjie teaching 8th grade English and history at Bret Harte Middle School in Oakland and baking delicious cookies.
In middle school, I had blue hair and went to many punk rock shows.
Alyssa Pandolfi is returning to Aim High for her third summer, and first as a Site Director. Alyssa grew up in North Haven, Connecticut. She received an M.A. in Urban Education from Loyola Marymount University. During the school year, Alyssa teaches 7th grade science at Elmhurst Community Prep Middle School in Oakland and adds to her extensive rock collection.
In middle school, I went home every day and read Harry Potter over and over again.
