Regional Program Manager - East Bay
Benjie has been with Aim High, off and mostly on, since 2003 as a teaching assistant, lead teacher, and site director in Oakland. He has now joined Aim High full-time as the East Bay Regional Program Manager. Originally from San Francisco, Benjie earned a B.A. in French and Francophone Studies from Macalester College in St. Paul, MN, while returning home every summer to work at Aim High. During those first summers he saw first-hand how Aim High’s magic truly facilitates authentic relationships between kids and adults that spark the joy of learning in kids and adults alike. Those experiences inspired Benjie to pursue and earn single subject teaching credentials in English and History as well as an M.A. in Education from Mills College in Oakland, CA. Benjie is excited to join the central office team after teaching 7th and 8th grade English and History in the Oakland Unified School District for the past 10 years. He has been an active member of the Oakland Education Association serving as a Site Representative and member of the Executive Board. He cares deeply about educational equity and providing all students with the intangible tools they can use to be successful in school and in life. When he is not working in service of kids and educators across the East Bay, you can find Benjie playing baseball and baking delicious cookies with his wife, Rachel, and son, Joey.
