Personally Identifiable Information
The nature of our services may require that we request personally identifiable information from you (such as your name, street address, telephone number, credit card number, e-mail address, and/or any other identifiers that permit us to contact you) in connection with your use of, or participation in, student applications, teacher/volunteer applications, online donations, newsletter sign-ups, volunteering and requests for additional information (including via email to us), and in connection with other activities, services or resources we make available on the Aim High website. In all of these cases, all information is collected voluntarily. Except as otherwise provided in this policy, we will never intentionally disclose any personally identifiable information about you as an individual user to any third party without having received your permission.
If you give us your permission, we may also use personally identifiable information for internal or external fundraising or informational purposes. Please note, however, that under certain circumstances, if you initially do not choose to “opt-in,” or if you later “opt-out,” you may not be eligible for certain outreach efforts from us for which a name, e-mail address, telephone number or other personally identifiable information is needed.
We have the following exceptions to these policies: We will release specific information about you or your account to comply with any valid legal inquiry or process such as a search warrant, subpoena, statute or court order. We will also release specific information in special cases, such as if there is an attempted breach of the security of the website, or a physical or property threat to you or others.
Further, the information you enter when making an online donation will be shared with payment processors, financial gateways, and your credit card company to authorize credit card payments. Such information may also be shared with necessary third parties for the purpose or carrying out the transactions.
The Aim High website uses “cookie” messages to automatically help provide better services. They remind us who you are and your preferences for our website based on what you’ve done and told us before. The “cookie” is placed in your computer and is read when you come back to our website. Cookies let us take you to the information and features you’re particularly interested in. They also let us track your usage of www.aimhigh.org, so we know which parts of our sites are most popular. You can reject cookies or cancel them by instructing your Web browser accordingly.
How Your Information May Be Used
We use your personal information to provide you with personalized service; to send e-mail alerts to you; to answer your requests; to process your application; etc. You may choose to opt out at any time, which will cease all communications from us. We may also use your information to track visitors of our website. This lets us see which of our features are the most popular so we can better serve our users’ needs. It also lets us provide aggregate data about our traffic (not identifying you personally, but showing how many visitors used which features, for example) to outside parties.
Aim High does not provide, sell, or rent email addresses to anyone outside the organization.
The Aim High website includes links to external websites. These links do not fall under the www.aimhigh.org domain, and Aim High is not responsible for the privacy practices or the content of external websites. Aim High is not responsible for the privacy policies and/or practices of third parties.
Aim High will not sell, trade or share a donor’s personal information with anyone else, nor send donor mailings on behalf of other organizations. Aim High will only share personal information once the donor has given the charity specific permission to do so. Unless you specify that your contribution be “anonymous” or otherwise request that your name not be listed, we may list the names of donors in our newsletters and annual reports to recognize the generosity of those who have given to our cause.
